Please note: This route is likely to change due to an upgrade to the trail system in the Valley.
Our half marathon course has been certified by Athletics Canada. The route has been altered slightly from 2015 to make it more intuitive. The course is mostly flat with a few small hills and a scenic 1 km gravel loop in the middle. It will be well marked and well marshalled.

From the starting line, the course makes a loop around Drumheller's verdant downtown core to cross the bridge over the Red Deer River. The route follows a paved pathway through North Drumheller and Midland, through trees along the river, and under an old train bridge. From there, the route takes you through the badlands to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. The course then drops down to North Dinosaur Trail to regain the same paved pathway back to Midland.

On the return, the course will take you along the north side of Midland to regain the pathway. From there, you will retrace your steps back to the bridge, with a short but scenic out-and-back near the hospital. After crossing the bridge, the route drops down, using an underpass to access the other last few hundred metres of the course. This final section is fast and shaded, as you run beneath huge Cottonwood trees to the finish line.
